The Ignite family is pleased to announce its first Hero scholarship winner, Jon Banks.
Jon is an Ignite yogi, Surprise resident and veteran who served 11 years with the US Army, including a tour in Vietnam.
Jon first tried yoga at a local gym and quickly realized that there was something more to the practice; as he said ‘something deeper.’ He now feels practice is part of his way of life and extends beyond the studio.
Jon has allowed us to share that he has arthritis in his knee and shoulder and bursitis in the hips, and some issues with stress. But rather than be discouraged by these factors, Jon is determined to manage them as much as possible with his practice.
Jon has discovered that his yoga helps him feel calm, and feels it’s good to meditate after his yoga practice. Inspired by his practice, Jon also maintains his own blog, The Invisible Hindu.
The scholarship provides for six months of yoga study and Hero recipients are asked to share their yoga journey and how it has impacted their lives. We hope to encourage more active duty military and veterans to learn about the benefits of yoga.
You can follow Jon’s story here. If you know someone that might be interested in applying for the Hero program, information and the application can be found on the Ignite Foundation webpage.
At Ignite Yoga, we believe that yoga is for everyone–For people of all ages and all walks of life.
